Christchurch Earthquake

04 March 2011
On February 22, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake occurred very close to Christchurch, New Zealand. The quake has destroyed the central business district and taken the lives of many. Numerous buildings have collapsed and it is expected that over 30% of all buildings will have been lost.

AuCom feels blessed to have been spared from the severe devastation and loss experienced by many of our fellow Cantabrians. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. All our staff are safe and well although a few who were not on our site at the time of the quake did have to be rescued and some no longer have homes. Amidst all of this it has been heartwarming to see the AuCom family has stood together to support each other and reach out to those around them.

With our families and staff provided for, I'm also proud to let you know just how well the team rallied to ensure we were back in operation as quickly as possible so that our customers and suppliers are inconvenienced as little as possible. On Friday 25th the factory and offices were made safe, tidied and all infrastructure proven and/or recalibrated where necessary. On Monday 28th all operations recommenced.

Thanks to all our New Zealand and international contacts who have flooded us with messages of support and offers of help. These communications mean more than you can understand until you have actually been a recipient. We have drawn considerable strength from knowing we are not alone in this.

Kind regards,

Brent Archer
