PCB Designer

About the role

We're looking for an experienced PCB Designer to join our team and take on some genuinely complex, high-stakes design work. You'll be involved across multiple product lines spanning LV and MV applications, in a fast-moving environment where every project brings something new. It's a role for someone who enjoys a technical challenge and wants their designs to end up protecting equipment worldwide.

In this role you will:

• Create schematics and PCB layouts from scratch as well as updating and modifying existing designs to satisfy hardware engineering requirements
• Panelisation of existing and new PCB designs ready for production utilising various features such as mouse bites, routed tooling strips & v-scores etc
• Work closely with mechanical design engineers at conceptual stage and during product development to determine PCB form factors and mechanical fit in metal work and plastic housings
• Use Altium variant manager
• Facilitate PCB design reviews
• Generate all PCB documentation such as Gerber and drill files for ordering and generate component placement files for manufacturing
• Verify existing designs and recommend PCB and manufacturing-related improvements
• Propose process improvements to ensure PCB functionality, quality and reliability
• Create and maintain component libraries
• Manipulate 3rd party PCB design files and gerbers for contract assembly at AuCom
• Order prototype runs of PCBs and all the solder paste stencils
• Respond to engineering questions from PCB Fabricators
• Maintain orderly directory of all PCB/PCBA file revision snapshots with a common hierarchy of directories and files. including PDF schematics of all PCBA variants and PCB layers and panels
• Generate part numbers in the ERP system
• Enter PCBA BOMs into the ERP system for both prototype builds and production release ECOs
• Understand the use of DRC
• Follow IPC design recommendations
  
  

We're looking for  someone with:

• 5+ years PCB design experience
• Familiar with Altium and Altium 365 workspace
• Experience designing multi-layer (typically up to 4 layer) mixed technology double sided PCBs
• Understanding of schematic & PCB layouts
• Knowledge about manufacturing limitations and design for low cost and high-volume design
• Proficient in the use of Altium Rules and Constraints Editor. Use of net classes for creepages and clearances
• IPC Designer Certification CID & CID+ (or equivalent) preferred
• DFM awareness
• ECAD to MCAD interface transfer. Solid works modelling ability preferred
• Knowledge of PCB fabrication process and Assembly

This is a permanent, full-time role, with remuneration negotiated in line with your skills and experience. You'll be based at our Christchurch site — and while we support flexibility where we can, this role is based on-site rather than fully remote.
