Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about our Software and Applications, to help you better understand their functionality, applications, and benefits.

What is WinStart?

Our WinStart software is a purpose-designed program for selecting the right soft starter model. This software will help you determine the appropriate starter model to suit your application, and is useful where the application does not match the soft starter's standard published rating.

What is WinMaster?

The software allows comprehensive management of soft starters.  It provides the following functionality:

Operation of soft starter networks containing up to 254 individual soft starters

  • Operational control (Start, Stop, Reset, Quick stop)
  • Starter status monitoring (Ready, Starting, Running, Stopping, Tripped)
  • Upload parameter settings/Download parameter settings
  • Save soft starter network groups to file

The software can manage soft starters individually or as a network group.

The software can manage multiple soft starter networks.

Is my soft starter compatible for WinMaster?

Each soft starter must have a Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP or USB connection option. All starters in a network must use the same protocol.

  • If using a Modbus RTU Interface or Card, the baud rate and parity must match the setting on the device. Each starter must have a unique serial address.
  • If using a Modbus TCP Interface or Card, the baud rate and parity must match the setting on the device. Each starter must have a unique IP address.
  • If using a USB Interface or smart card, the protocol must be AP Binary or AP ASCII. The software can connect to one starter at a time. The serial address of the USB Interface is fixed at 20.
How do I install the software?
  1. Extract the zip contents to the local machine.
  2. Double-click on the installation file, then follow the setup instructions on the screen.
What are soft starter ratings?

Soft starter current ratings provide information on the soft starter's performance under defined operating conditions. If the operating conditions change, the soft starter's current rating must be recalculated. The software provides a fast and reliable interface for recalculating the soft starter rating to reflect the specific conditions of your application.

When selecting the soft starter model, it is vital to ensure the starter will not overheat during operation. When the soft starter SCRs are conducting current, they dissipate power and therefore generate heat. The soft starter must be able to dissipate all the heat generated, in order to operate safely. Larger model units have larger heatsinks and the SCRs are capable of conducting more current; this means that a larger unit can operate under more taxing conditions. Detailed information on the SCR and heatsink characteristics is built into the software.

To ensure safe and successful operation, the soft starter should be selected for the most severe operating conditions it will face.
