Our global manufacturing facilities are fully integrated with engineering, assembly, testing, supply chain, customer service, and repair operations.

The AuCom Story
The AuCom story is one of kiwi ingenuity and innovation. Founded in 1978 by Mark Empson and Ray Archer, whose shared passion for electronics sparked the company’s early success. AuCom quickly expanded from crafting high-end audio equipment to pioneering cutting-edge motor control solutions.
Over the decades, AuCom has evolved from exporting globally to operating globally. Today we are powered forward by a next generation of leaders passionate about motor control and embracing the innovative and enterprising spirit of our founders.
1978: A sound start
Founded in 1978 by Ray Archer and Mark Empson, AuCom initially designed and manufactured high-end stereo amplifiers from the humble confines of Mark's garage. The name "AuCom" combines "Au" for audio and "Com" for communication, reflecting the founders' shared passion for amateur radio and music.
1980: Power Saver Technology
After securing a license from the American space agency, NASA to manufacture single phase energy savers, AuCom went on to design and patent energy saving technology for three phase ac induction motors.1982: Soft Start Pioneer
Having entered the arena of electronic motor control, AuCom’s innovative capabilities continued with release of the world’s first completed commercially viable range of low voltage soft starters.
1984: Solutions not just product
As pioneers of soft start technology AuCom understood clients require results not just products. With this in mind AuCom established is own technical sales operations in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom.1987 - 2007: Expanding Portfolio
Responding to requests from a rapidly growing client base, AuCom expands it product portfolio to include three styles of soft starters and a range of VFDs.
2007: Powering up
Having specialised in Low Voltage products, 2007 saw AuCom enter the Medium Voltage arena with release MVX Series of arc fault rated soft starters.
2014: Local panel manufacture
Responding to the needs of MV clients for custom panels, short delivery times and 24/7 support AuCom establishes offices and third-party panel manufacture capabilities in EMEA and China.
2015: Coming to America
With a market leadership position in the IEC markets, AuCom enters the NEMA motor control market establishing a factory in Pittsburgh PA.
2019: Merger with Benshaw
Sharing the DNA and complementary capabilities, AuCom & Benshaw merge to form the Benshaw Group.
2022: European manufacturing capability
AuCom German operation begins a substantial expansion program to deliver in-house design and manufacture of motor control systems and panels.
