About the role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Technical Lead with a strong customer focus to join our embedded software team and take on some interesting design challenges. You'll be involved across multiple product lines spanning industrial communications, motor control, UI design, and cyber security.
It's a role for someone who enjoys a technical challenge in a fast-moving environment and being involved with the design and manufacture of physical products. We are looking for someone who can provide technical excellence, strong project technical leadership skills with a hands-on can-do, fit for market approach to problem solving.
Development is mostly done in C.
In this role you will:
- Work with stakeholders to design and implement firmware for new products, as well as maintaining existing designs to satisfy emergent customer requirements
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines during product development, to achieve cost effective, manufacturable products
- Facilitate design reviews, documentation, and assist with test-plan development, verification, and compliance activities
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the Team ensuring they contribute to AuCom’s business goals
- Provide input to process improvements and advocate for modern software development best practices to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the SDLC
- Respond to engineering questions from production and product support
We're looking for someone with:
- Strong software design experience (at least 8+ years) in a commercial embedded firmware development role, with demonstrated experience in Senior and/or Leadership positions
- Familiarity with STM32 and ESP32 micro-controllers
- Proficient with Git, Jira, and RTOS; experience with GitLab advantageous
- A working understanding of electronics, able to read a schematic, and safely use basic electronics test equipment
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with other team members, customers, and end users in a productive way
- Exposure to Ethernet base industrial fieldbus protocols and BLE would be an advantage
- Familiarity with security infrastructure and cyber-security practices within a software development context is highly advantageous

This is a permanent, full-time role, with remuneration negotiated in line with your skills and experience.
While we support flexibility where we can, this role is based at our Christchurch site, rather than working remotely.
